Change is something people tend to overlook. May it be good or bad, the concept allows the world to continue moving. However, what happens when this change decelerates how society functions as a whole? This impact can be seen through the struggles of the people who have lost their jobs. Even so, some people have it worse, others have lost their family members or could be currently fighting for the life of their loved ones. The ones with financial instability turned to the internet to cope up with this change and by making small businesses, they were able to get back on their feet.

Being alone during the holidays is depressing especially if you’re just a student. That’s why I am doing everything I can to feel like I

am still with friends even though it is very different to an environment that I'm used to. I see that many of my friends are earning money through selling plants, baked goods, or even art commissions. This made me realize I can help support this type of business and not just to my friends but also local shops. Seeing how happy the people are when you support their business is an interesting experience because of its wholesomeness. This also made me realize my potential to open my commissions to grow as an artist while earning money along the way.

Although financial stability is really important during these hard times, mental stability is also important and people tend to overlook this aspect of life. I have met online friends for the past few months and they made living alone a bearable experience. To share this feeling, I open up to them by asking them how they usually are and I lend them my ears and shoulders. Having to understand their situation is not hard due to similar experiences in my past. Letting them know that I can be trusted helps them a lot especially during the holidays where things tend to become overwhelming. Just by checking on newfound friends, I was able to help with their mental state during the holidays.

As a growing artist, there are still many aspects of art that need to learn including my own style. An old friend of mine managed to reach out to me to ask for a commission. Although I was not accepting any due to the tight schedule, I decided to take on the challenge. It took a while but I managed to create their logo which I haven’t done for myself. This experience allowed me to learn how to communicate with starting businesses and how to go out of my own comfort zone. We both managed to make a difference that helped us grow both as an individual and as a business.

Adapting to change varies from different people. It takes time for some but there are people who are very flexible and can change quickly. The pandemic made this a gray area because everyone is affected. However, as an individual, I also need to cooperate with society to progress. This is why I am doing my best to support local businesses and also online friends. I know it may not be much because there are too many things happening all at once but as long as there's progress, I am willing to continue moving forward.
